Office of the Address Registrar

The Office of the Address Registrar was established through Legal Notice 205 of 2025, Address Register and related Location (Geospatial) Registers Regulations, 2025, published on the 23rd of September 2025. The Office of the Address Registrar assumed the responsibilities previously assigned to the Address Management Unit within the Electoral Office.

Additionally, the Office of the Address Registrar is also responsible for the establishment and management of an Address Register which shall act as the primary source of address information. Ultimately, the Address Register will be the authoritative registry of all streets and addresses in the Maltese archipelago, including spatial data.

The Address Management Unit, within the Electoral Office, was setup in 2016 and was vested with the responsibility of the managing and updating of addresses in Malta and Gozo, mainly through two key processes: door numbering and street naming exercises. The Address Management Unit was also responsible for the updating of address data in the Electoral Register and in the Address Management System.

As of 1st January, 2026 all address related information is available on address.gov.mt

Door Numbering Unit

The Door Numbering Unit became the responsibility of the Electoral Office on 8th January, 2016, according to Act No. II of 2016.

Door numbering is a system that assigns a unique door number to every door or opening in a public street, with the aim that makes it easier to find a particular door.
