General Election 2026 - Applications for Assistant Electoral Commissioners and Polling Place Officers

The Electoral Commission will be accepting applications from persons interested in serving as Assistant Electoral Commissioners and Polling Place Officers during the upcoming General Election in May 2026, between Wednesday 29th April and Sunday 3rd May 2026. 

 

Role Descriptions

Polling Place Officers - € 300

The Polling Place Officer is the person responsible for coordinating a smooth workflow in polling rooms within the polling place by communicating with the Chairpersons and the other officials at the polling station. The Polling Place Officer assists the Assistant Commissioners in the event of problems and, when necessary and reports back to the Electoral Office. This officer is also responsible for managing the logistical aspect of the polling place. In order to apply for the role of Polling Place Officer, a person must have prior experience as a Chairperson.

Chairperson - € 320

This person leads the Assistant Electoral Commissioners while serving in their assigned Polling Booth. The Chairperson must be assertive and clear when communicating with colleagues. It is important that the voting process proceeds calmly and without errors, and that the instructions given are carried out accurately.

Assistant Electoral Commissioners - € 270

These all work as a team under the direction of the Chairperson. It is crucial that all Assistant Electoral Commissioners carry out their work in a loyal way and according to the established rules. A missed step may have serious repercussions. It is therefore important that all processes are completed in a responsible and timely manner.

Staff to assist, supervise and operate the Electronic Counting System

The selected candidates will be assigned to the various roles related to the counting process.  The remuneration varies according to the role assigned.
