NOTICE BY THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION

ELECTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND
LOCAL COUNCILS' ELECTIONS

Persons to serve as Assistant Electoral Commissioners; Counters; Supervisors; Party Agents; Counting Agents; Transport Agents and Delivery Agents

The Electoral Commission notifies the political parties contesting the elections to the European Parliament and for the Local Councils' of Birgu, Qormi, Siġġiewi, Attard, Birżebbuġa, Floriana, Gżira, Għargħur, Ħamrun, Kerċem, Luqa, Marsaxlokk, Mosta, Munxar, Paola, Qala, Safi, San Lawrenz, Santa Luċija, Swieqi, Xagħra and Żebbuġ (Gozo) and any person or any group of persons contesting the elections to the European Parliament and of a Local Council as one group bearing the same name, that according to regulations 27(1), 55(3) and 30(3) of the Third Schedule of the Local Councils' Act 1993, they may submit to the Electoral Commission lists wherein they nominate persons to serve as Assistant Electoral Commissioners, Counters, Supervisors and Party Agents. These lists have to be presented to the Electoral Commission up to the 10th May, 2004, in respect of Local Councils' elections and up to the 13th May, 2004, in respect of the election to the European Parliament.

Political parties may, up to the Saturday 22nd May 2004, submit to the Electoral Commission a list of names of persons to serve as Counting Agents. The number of Counting Agents must be equal to the number of candidates contesting multiplied by the number of counting stations as established by the Electoral Commission in respect of the Election for Members of the European Parliament and must be equal to the number of candidates contesting the election with that party in the respective locality for the elections of Local Councils.

The political parties are also reminded that according to section 21(1) of Act XVI of 2003 for the holding of elections to the European Parliament and according to regulations 54(1) and 46(6E) of the Third Schedule of Local Councils Act, 1993, they may up to Saturday 22nd May 2004, nominate persons to serve as Delivery Agents and Transport Agents. The number of Delivery Agents shall not be more than two for each counting station as established by the Electoral Commission for the election of Members to the European Parliament and not more than two for each locality being contested for the elections of Local Councils as established by the Electoral Commission. The number of Transport Agents shall be equal to the number of vehicles used to convey Assistant Electoral Commissioners and Ballot Boxes.

Nomination forms for prospective candidates may be obtained from the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St. Elmo Square, Valletta and the Identity Cards Office, 7A, Republic Street, Victoria, Gozo, between Tuesday 4th May and Wednesday 12th May 2004.

Nominations of candidates will be received by the Electoral Commission between Monday 10th May and Wednesday 12th May 2004 from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
