NOTICE BY THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION

Non-Maltese EU citizens residing in the Maltese Islands who do not already hold a Malta ID card or Residence document may apply for registration in the European Parliament elections register by first applying for their Residence document at the Citizenship and Expatriate Affairs Department, Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, where they also complete the electoral register application.

In view of Croatia’s membership in the EU, the Electoral Commission draws the attention of Croatian citizens, residing in the Maltese Islands and already holding a Malta I.D. card or Residence document, that they may opt to register to vote in Malta in the European Parliament Elections for candidates standing for election in Malta. Registration for entry in the European Parliament elections register is NOT automatic. In these cases, interested persons need to call at the Electoral Office at Evans Building, St Elmo Square, Valletta, or to fill in the appropriate form available on the Electoral Commission’s website www.electoral.gov.mt

This procedure is also required in respect of non-Maltese EU citizens residing in Malta, already in possession of a Malta ID card or Residence document, and wishing to change their option into voting in Malta instead of in their home country in the same elections.

As always, non-Maltese EU Citizens who opt to be registered to vote in Malta, for candidates standing for election in Malta, would be renouncing their right to vote in their home country in the same elections.

The closing date for the next European Parliament Elections register, to be published in October 2013, is 30th September 2013. The current register may be viewed at the Electoral Office premises in Valletta and Victoria, Gozo. Enquiries by email may be made on the email address [email protected]
