NOTICE BY THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION

NATIONAL REFERENDUM
28 MAY 2011

The Electoral Commission, in agreement with the two political parties represented in the House of Representatives, has, for valid reasons, decided to use the services of MaltaPost plc for the door-to-door distribution of voting documents, for the 28th May, 2011, national referendum.

During this exercise, two cases were reported, one in Paola and another in Dingli, where a packet of voting documents, related to one street in each case, was reported lost by company employees. 21 voting documents in Paola and 30 in Dingli, 51 in all, were the voting documents concerned.

The voters involved were notified that their original document had been cancelled and was replaced by a new one, duly stamped “REPRINT”, in accordance with the electoral legislation. The distribution of these documents was done by the police.

Consequently, the original 51 voting documents were at that point in time invalidated. Apart from the fact that, in accordance with the provisions of the electoral legislation, the delegates of the two political parties were duly notified, police reports have been made on both cases and correspondence is being exchanged with MaltaPost plc on the subject-matter.
