NOTICE BY THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION

LOCAL COUNCILS’ ELECTIONS 2012

The Electoral Commission notifies the political parties contesting the elections for the Local Councils’ of Birgu, L-Isla, Ħal Qormi, Ħaż-Żebbuġ, Is-Siġġiewi, Ħ’Attard, Ħal Balzan, Birżebbuġa, Ħad-Dingli, Floriana, Il-Ġzira, Għajnsielem, Ħal Għargħur, Il-Ħamrun, L-Iklin, Ta’ Kerċem, Ħal-Kirkop, Ħal-Luqa, Il-Marsa, Marsaxlokk, Il-Mosta, Il-Munxar, In-Nadur, Paola, Il-Qala, Ħal Safi, San Ġiljan, San Lawrenz, San Pawl il-Baħar, Santa Luċija, Is-Swieqi, Ix-Xagħra, Iż-Żebbuġ u Iż-Zurrieq and any person or any group of persons contesting the election of a Local Council as one group bearing the same name, that according to regulations 27(1), 55(3) and 30(3) of the Third Schedule of the Local Councils Act (Chap. 363), they have up to Wednesday 8^th February, 2012 to submit to the Electoral Commission lists wherein they nominate persons to serve as Assistant Electoral Commissioners, Counters, Supervisors and Party Agents.

Political parties may submit up to Saturday 18^th February, 2012 to the Electoral Commission a list of names of persons to serve as Counting Agents. The number of Counting Agents must be equal to the number of candidates contesting the election with that party in the respective locality.

Political parties are also reminded that according to regulations 54(1) and 46(6E) of the same Act, they may up to Saturday 18^th February, 2012 nominate persons to serve as Delivery Agents and Transport Agents. The number of Delivery Agents shall not be more than two for each locality being contested, as established by the Electoral Commission, and the number of Transport Agents shall be equal to the number of vehicles used to convey Assistant Electoral Commissioners and Ballot Boxes.

Nomination forms for prospective candidates may be obtained from the Electoral Office, Evans Building, St. Elmo Square, Valletta and the Identity Cards Office, Victoria, Gozo, between today and Saturday 11^th February, 2012.

Nominations of candidates will be received by the Electoral Commission on Wednesday 8^th, Thursday 9^th, and Saturday 11^th February, 2012, from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. and from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
