EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS – SATURDAY 6th JUNE, 2009

Notice to citizens of Malta residing in an EU Member State

A person shall be entitled to vote in the Election for Members of the European Parliament election in Malta on Saturday 6th June, 2009, for candidates standing for election in Malta, if their names and particulars are listed either in the general election electoral register or in the European Union electoral register to be published in April, 2009.

Citizens of Malta whose names are not listed in the general election register, who reside in an EU Member State, and who wish to be registered to vote in said election, must apply to the Electoral Commission on a specific form. Besides being a registered voter, in order to be able to vote, one must hold a Maltese identity card. The Electoral Commission also needs to be in possession of the voter’s photograph such that a voting document may be issued and distributed in due course. Without a voting document no one may vote.

The specific application form is obtained from the Electoral Office in Valletta and Rabat, Gozo and may also be downloaded from the website www.electoral.gov.mt However, it is to be noted that the closing date is 31st March, 2009. Applications received after this date, which is established by law, cannot be accepted.
